The CEREC Advantages
CEREC is a state-of-the-art technology available to dentists today. From injury to decay, it is a tool that makes dental restorations more effective than ever.
What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Estheric Ceramic, which uses CAD/CAM, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. Furthermore, with these technologies, your dentist can create restorations.
If you have damaged teeth, dentists can complete restorations in one visit. The ceramic material adapts well with the tissue on your mouth. In fact, by combining the ceramic material with this technology dentists can create:
- Crowns
- Fixed bridges
- Dental implants
- Dentures
- Onlays and inlays
- Veneers
- Other orthodontic materials
What are the advantages?
For one thing, it can shorten the process of creating a restoration. You don’t have to wait days or weeks after your dentist sends a dental impression of your teeth to a lab. As mentioned earlier, your dentist can finish the restoration in one appointment. In fact, your dentist is more in control of the process, which is very accurate. Also, there’s no need for a temporary fix.
Besides, your teeth will look natural, and the material makes teeth stronger. Not to mention, you’ll have a more beautiful smile.
What does the process involve?
CEREC is basically a three step process.
- Numb the mouth area and tooth and scan for an impression.
- Use CAD/CAM software to create a custom-made restoration.
- Mill and grind with special equipment to achieve a high level of accuracy. Then place the restoration in your mouth and make any adjustments. Bond the ceramic material to your tooth.
