Speeding up the process for dental implants

Guided placement for dental implants has shortened the process of getting an implant. With busy work schedules and active lives, many people like to take advantage of this time-saving technique.

What is guided placement for dental implants?

Guided placement combines a cat scan with CEREC technology. Using this combination, your dentist can send the computer generated information to a lab. Within about 10 days, your dentist receives a mouthpiece especially designed for you. The mouthpiece guides the process of placing an implant.

How does the guided placement work?

The dentist numbs the area and snaps the mouthpiece over your teeth. The mouthpiece has a small guide hole. The hole custom guides the drill at the proper angle and depth for your mouth area. This enables the dentist to place the implant with precision. After placing the implant, the dentist removes the mouthpiece and screws on the tooth.

What are the advantages of using guided placement?

Many patients don’t like having implants done because it takes weeks, months, and sometimes even up to a year. The dentist has to do the surgery, and then has to let the implant area heal. After that, the dentist would usually take more measurements. It takes so long that people with busy schedules often have problems working the dental visits into their schedule. By comparison, with guided placement for dental implants, the process is fast. During the second visit, in about an hour and a half, patients have their implant, their crown and everything done in one surgery. One appointment, not months.
