What Is Dental Bonding? What Can You Expect?
Do you have a chipped or cracked tooth? Is there a gap in your smile? Do you have some discoloration or has there been a change in the shape of your tooth? You may be the perfect candidate for dental bonding.
What Is Dental Bonding?
With dental bonding, also known as teeth bonding, your dentist uses a tooth-colored composite resin material to repair a wide range of imperfections, such as cavities, cracks and chips.
How Long Does the Dental Bonding Process Take?
If it’s just a single tooth, you can often complete the teeth bonding process with a single appointment, typically lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Of course, if the bonding involves a number of teeth, you’ll likely need more than one appointment.
The resin used to bond your teeth cures virtually immediately, so you can eat or drink anything as soon as you’re done with your appointment.
Is the Dental Bonding Procedure Painful?
You may experience increased sensitivity to hot and cold foods or beverages for a few days, but there’s usually no significant pain as a result of teeth bonding.
What Is the Typical Recovery Time after Dental Bonding?
Because the bonding occurs instantaneously, there’s really no recovery time. You can engage in any normal activity immediately, though you may notice heightened sensitivity to heat and cold. In addition, because most dental bonding is done without anesthesia, you won’t have any limitations on eating or speaking.
How Long Will Your Dental Bonding Last?
That depends. If you take good care of your teeth, the bonding should be good for up to 10 years.
