For two three-day weekends every year in October, Austin cuts loose with its ACL Music Festival. Known as the live music capital of the world, Austin has hosted a live music festival every year since 2002. In 2015, you can expect to see eight stages and more than 130 bands performing. Because of the festival’s success, beginning in 2013, the Austin City Council extended the festival to last for two weekends.
Here are some of the festival’s highlights:
- Austin Eats. As the saying goes, “Good food is the way to a man’s heart,” and the ACL Music Festival doesn’t disappoint in this respect. You’ll find the best local restaurants in Austin providing its fare for people to enjoy, including finger lickin’ good BBQ, tasty tacos and delicious ice cream in a variety of flavors.
- ACL Art Market. Aside from music performances, national and local artisans display their talented work in the center of Zilker Park. Browse through the market and you’ll find everything from gallery paintings to vintage antique items and unique photography that you can buy.
- ACL Cares. Giving back is a way of life for caring people, and ACL Cares provides the opportunity for like-minded people to support causes they believe are important. National and local non-profits represent themselves in the ACL Cares area of the festival. Some ACL partners include the Austin Music Foundation, Keep Austin Beautiful, Love Hope Strength, Oxfam America, the Nature Conservancy and Athropos Arts.
